ABOUT US

Welcome to Ashbourne Community School’s website. I hope as you navigate the website that you will gain a good insight into our positive ethos as well as the warm and welcoming atmosphere of our school. Our Mission Statement highlights the values of respect, inclusion and care. To this end, we strive to create positive relationships among staff and students where we engage in restorative practice as a means of maintaining and enhancing those relationships. Student Leadership and Student Voice are very important in the daily life of our school.

Ashbourne Community School is a co-educational school which is multi-denominational in ethos and operates under the joint patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Meath and Louth/Meath Education Training Board. The school opened its doors in September 1994 to serve the educational needs of the local community. For the past three decades we have welcomed students from the town of Ashbourne and the surrounding area. During their time with us, we strived to ensure that each one of them left school as confident, mature and resilient young adults equipped to deal with the challenges that lay ahead. We are proud and reassured that several past students are excelling in various professions such as Sport, Politics, Science, IT, Education, Medicine, Art, Music, Construction, Engineering, Aviation and Agriculture.

Over the years, we have gained a reputation as a progressive school, not afraid to embrace new initiatives. As a result we were selected to take part in a number of pilot programmes. Our large student population affords us the opportunity to provide an extensive curriculum at both Junior and Senior Cycles. We are very proud of our academic record and every year we celebrate student success both Academic and Sporting. We are grateful to our hardworking staff who share their time and expertise to ensure that we offer the very best opportunities to our students both inside and outside of the classroom. In order for staff to operate at the highest level, we take every opportunity to facilitate their professional development which we see as a vital requirement in a rapidly changing world.

The school provides a vibrant extra -curricular programme to suit all interests. We encourage students to involve themselves in various aspects of school life and believe that their participation provides them with a real sense of belonging and affords further opportunities to grow as individuals and develop essential skills for life.

As a Community School, we value all members of the wider community. Working in partnership with Parents/Guardians is of high importance and we continue to foster links with local sporting clubs and businesses and appreciate their friendship and support.
As Principal, I am committed to education in its broadest sense. I am dedicated to the continuous development of high standards in all aspects of school life. I firmly believe that our students will thrive in our safe, caring and inclusive environment.
