Entrepreneurs
Young Entrepreneurs is an extra curricular group run by teachers in the Business Department. It encourages students to plan, set up and run their own businesses. Students have the option to enter the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Awards. Meetings take place every Tuesday in RA03 Computer Room at lunchtime. All 1st, 2nd and TY students are welcome.
Student Enterprise Programme 2018-19
On Monday 17th September 2018, 18 of our 1st and 2nd year students who are members of our Young Entrepreneurs Extra Curricular Group, attended an Idea Generation Workshop in the Trim Castle Hotel. They were informed about the Student Enterprise Programme competition run by the Local Enterprise Office and engaged in several idea generation activities. Thanks to Ms Beharic and Ms Flanagan for accompanying our future young entrepreneurs!

Student Enterprise Programme 2017-18
Congratulations to Lisa Golden of Golden Bakes who won Best Display AND Best Dragon's Den Pitch in the Intermediate Category (2nd Yrs) at the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Awards on 13th March 2018 in the Knightsbrook Hotel Trim. Lisa also won the Student Karaoke competition. Well done Lisa. Super proud of Lisa, and all our young entrepreneurs..... Shay, Niall, Eduard, Kirsty, Luke and Sam. Ms Mathews also won the Teacher Appreciation Award. A great day had by all...... now to get brainstorming for next year!

Superb results for Ashbourne Community School at the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Programme 2017

Our young entrepreneurs in ACS had fantastic success at the Student Enterprise Programme Meath County Final in the Knightsbrook Hotel Trim on Monday 6th March 2017. We had 4 companies across the 3 categories. In the Junior Category (1stYears), Jake Farrell and his company, Lucky Cookies, won 3rd prize, while, Eduard Dravnieks and his company Gift Box, won highly commended.
In the Intermediate Category (2nd Years), Caitlin Doyle and Robyn McNeary, and their company 2-Sweet won 2nd prize and also won Best Overall Display on the day.
In the Senior Category (TYs), Leo Corry and Andrew O’Dwyer, and their company, Get a Grip, won 2nd prize. As well as their One 4 All Gift Vouchers, the 4 companies won 5 glass trophies for the school. To say we are delighted is an understatement. These students have put in a tremendous amount of effort into setting up and running their companies since September 2016. We have met up every Tuesday at lunchtime since then. We are very proud of their efforts. They have learned that enterprise is not easy but very rewarding. We are already looking forward to next year’s ideas!

Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Programme 2017
On Monday 6th March 2017, 4 enterprises will represent Ashbourne Community School at the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Programme. This is the first year that ACS will have representation in all 3 categories of the competition – we are very proud of this. The companies are as follows:
Junior Category (1st Year)
1. Lucky Cookies – set up and run by Jake Farrell.
2. Gift Box – set up and run by Eduard Dravnieks.
Intermediate Category (2nd Year)
3. 2 Sweet – set up and run by Robyn McNeary and Caitlin Doyle.
Senior Category (Transition Year)
4. Get a Grip Gloves – set up and run by Leo Corry and Andrew O’Dwyer.
ACS had great success with our Young Entrepreneurs in 2016. 1st Year company Button Art (personalised canvas art using buttons), were 3rd in the 1st Year Junior Category (Sophie Breslin, Niamh Linnane and Orla Shortt). TY company togl.bags (personalised bags) were overall winners in the Senior Category at the Meath County Final (Lauren Breslin, Thea Clerkin and Grace Foley). We would love to see one or more of our 2017 companies follow in the togl.bag girls footsteps and represent ACS, Meath and themselves, at the National Finals of the Student Enterprise Awards on 3rd May 2017 in Croke Park. Regardless of what happens however, they have learned valuable life skills and gained practical experience of the juggling their business, school and family life.
The Student Enterprise Programme (SEP) is the biggest enterprise competition for students in Ireland. It helps students to grasp real life skills associated with running a real enterprise. These include working as part of a team, managing production and finances, organising a sales and marketing campaign and liaising directly with customers, judges and the media. The Meath Local Enterprise Office in Navan provides support to teachers and students involved in the competition. We would like to thank Derbhille Clarke, Business Training Consultant and Business Coach, who has mentored all our mini-companies since September 2016 at 4 workshops. Her knowledge has been invaluable.
The Young Entrepreneurs Lunchtime Club starts in September every year, meets weekly and is mentored by Business teachers, Ms. Caroline Mathews, Ms. Ann-Marie Burke and Mr. Harry Newman.

Well done to our 30 budding young entrepreneurs who took part in their second workshop with Derbhille Clarke, Business Mentor, on Tuesday 25th October 2016. Thanks to the Local Enterprise Office for linking successful businesses with these young entrepreneurs. Derbhille was very impressed with the ideas, the product quality and the massive amount of work these students have done since September on their mini-companies. The students have 4 workshops between September and the end of January. Well done to all those involved.

Open Evening October 2016
Well done to the 9 wonderful mini-companies who set up their businesses in the Business Department room at the Open Evening on Tuesday 11th October 2016. They illustrated how the Business subjects come to life, if you take a chance, dare to learn and set up an enterprise. We are very proud of them. Well done to all.

Our Young Entrepreneurs were honoured at our Awards Night in May 2016. Since September 2015, students ran their businesses. At the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Awards run by the Meath Local Enterprise Office, 2 companies represented ACS. 1st Year company Button Art who make personalised canvas art using buttons, were 3rd in the 1st Year Junior Category - Sophie Breslin, Niamh Linnane and Orla Shortt were presented with Awards for Outstanding Contribution to Enterprise.
TY company togl.bags who make personalised bags were 1st in the Senior Category at the Meath County Final - a massive achievement. They went on to represent ACS, Meath and themselves at the National Finals of the Student Enterprise Awards in April 2016 in Croke Park - the first time in 12 years ACS was represented at these finals. In April 2016, they received a Bank of Ireland Enterprise Award. Therefore, awards for Outstanding Contribution to Enterprise, as well as Achievement in Enterprise went to the TY togl girls, Lauren Breslin, Thea Clerkin and Grace Foley.
The mentors of the Young Entrepreneurs for 2015-2016 were Ms. Caroline Mathews, Ms. Ann-Marie Burke and Mr. Harry Newman.

togl.bags mini-company Ashbourne Community School
togl.bags are pictured with their 2 Enterprise Awards received over the last 2 months – Bank of Ireland Enterprise Award and Meath County Final Student Enterprise Awards Senior Category Winners Awards.
Thea Clerkin, Grace Foley and Lauren Breslin continue to run their successful personalised bag business, togl.bags, which they set up in September 2015. On Wednesday 20th April 2016 they represented Ashbourne Community School and Meath at the National Finals of the Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park. Our TY mini-company Togl.bags won 1st place in the Senior Category. Lauren Breslin, Thea Clerkin and Grace Foley will go on to represent ACS and Meath at the All Ireland Final of the Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park on Wednesday 20th April 2016.
1st year company Button Art got 3rd place in the Junior Category. They were Sophie Breslin, Niamh Linnane and Orla Shortt. We are thrilled with these achievements. We are very proud! Well done girls. These companies have been mentored by Ms Mathews, Ms Burke and Mr Newman.
A big thank you to local entrepreneur Gerry Moan who worked with our young entrepreneurs in 4 workshops since September 2015. These workshops were organised by the Meath Local Enterprise Office. Gerry is pictured with Lauren, Grace and Thea of the company Togl.bags. Also pictured are our 1st year company Button Art, with Orla, Niamh and Lauren. Well done to Grace, Lauren and Thea who held a bake sale on Friday 12th February 2016 at lunchtime. Mr Sheerin really wanted to be in the photo too! The girls will represent ACS at the Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Awards on Thursday 10th March 2016 in the Trim Castle Hotel.
Their company togl.bags has been a huge success for them. The proceeds of the bake sale will go towards their display stand on the day.

The Student Enterprise Awards is a competition run by the Meath Local Enterprise Office to help students to grasp real life skills associated with running a real enterprise. Starting in September every year, our budding entrepreneurs get to work. They look for every available opportunity to sell their products including at lunchtime, at Parent Teacher Meetings and the school’s Open Evening. Some groups even attended local Craft and Trade Fairs. Students attend 4 workshops with local entrepreneur, Gerry Moan, CEO of Constructive Intervention, gaining valuable advice and mentoring. The Meath County Final of the Student Enterprise Awards takes place on March every year in. Any student in ACS is welcome to set up their own mini-company, even if they do not want to enter the Student Enterprise Awards competitions.

Student Enterprise Awards Meath County Final 2015
In 2015, Ashbourne Community School was represented by 2 companies, Hoods Up and Zaos at the Student Enterprise Awards Meath County Final in Trim. The students who took part learned many skills. These included working as part of a team, managing production and finances, organising a sales and marketing campaign and liaising directly with customers, judges and the media. The Business Department teachers, especially Ms. Mathews, Ms. Burke and Ms, Mongey are very proud of all the students who set up enterprises.
At the annual Awards Night in May 2015, 5 students received awards for their Outstanding Contribution to Enterprise. These students have been exceptional in their efforts with their businesses Hoods Up, Tasty Pastries and Zaos. These students represented ACS at the County Meath Final of the Student Enterprise Awards. They were TY students Rachael Whitehead and Méabh O’Donoghue (TY), and 5th year students Conor Heffernan, OisÃn Gryson and Daniel Deery. The future of enterprise is safe in the hands of these budding young entrepreneurs!
