The Mentoring Committee is made up of a group of senior cycle students appointed to help 1st Year students in their transition from primary to secondary school. It is hoped that if a Ist Year student has a problem, they can seek advice from their Mentor. The Mentor Committee is made up of dedicated and enthusiastic students who are selected through an interview process each May.
The Committee is a hugely important area of Student Responsibility within the school and is steered from within the Student Council. This year's elected Mentor Co-ordinator is 6th year student Síobhra Aiken. Having taken on the task last year, she hopes to use her experience to ensure the Mentor programme continues to progress and be developed. Ms M. Murphy, in her role as Student Responsibility Co-Ordinator oversees the Committee.
The Mentor Committee partake in a workshop each August to prepare for their mentoring duties. Three mentors are assigned to each Ist Year tutor group. On the first day of school, the mentors are introduced to their class and help the students to accustom themselves to the school environment. Mentors take their Ist Year classes for a single period every 3-4 weeks. Students are encouraged to share any problems or worries they may encounter with their mentors. Mentors liaise on a regular basis with the 1st Year Class Tutors, 1st Year Head Ms. Casey and Student Responsibility Co-Ordinator Ms. Murphy.
