A big congratulations to our successful entrants into the BT Young Scientists Competition 2009 – Fiona Gryson, Leah Fitzpatrick, Shona Fitzpatrick and Conor Ferris.
Two projects from the school were successful in making the final which where held in the RDS from the 7th – 10th Jan 2009.
Conor, Leah and Shona have been working over the summer months under the guidance of science teacher Ms. Ailish Kendell, their projects looked into the ability of adults to self assess their level of alcohol consumption in relation to drink driving limits. They have already received queries from companies producing self testing kits anxious to get involved in their research and interested in their findings.
Fiona Gryson, overseen by Ms Sharon Galvin, is created a drying scale. Using the numerical values, she took into consideraion wind speed, humidity and temperature, and their relationship with drying speeds. She used this data to predict drying rates.
