Battle of the Bands 2010!
On the night of the 20th of March two hundred excited students crowded into the hall of Gael Scoil na Cille for the Student Council’s annual Battle of the Bands. At 7:30pm the night kicked off to a great start with a performance from 6th year band “The Future Heffernans” and was followed by “Clockwise from Above” and TY band “The Sandy Beaches”. After each band our judges, Today FM’s very own Alison Curtis and Neil and Keiran from popular Irish band “The Delorentos”, gave their comments and some encouraging words of wisdom.
Next up was 5th year band “Stritch” with a very entertaining performance, followed by solo act Mathew Brady and 6th year bands “Checkpoint Charlie” and “A Gogo” who all really got the crowd going. Our very own teachers, Mr Stewart, Mr Carolan and Mr O’Leary then took to the stage for their much anticipated and memorable performance . “The One Armed Bandits” and “Those Pesky Kids”, wrapped up the night with two outstanding performances followed by a surprise rap performance by Paul Whelan.
Our judges then had the extremely difficult task of choosing the winners. After long deliberation and an agonizing wait for the crowd, they finally reached a decision! In joint third place came “Stritch” and Paul Whelan, “Check Point Charlie” took second place and our overall winners of the night were “Those Pesky Kids”. Each winning act on the night took home a battle of the bands 2010 t-shirt, designed by 5th year student Mathew Moynihan and first place “Those Pesky Kids” will receive a chance to perform on internet music channel, Balcony TV.
Overall the night was a brilliant success and the Student Council would like to say a huge thank you to all who participated, attended and helped out on the night!
