Walk To School Week

May 19th - 23rd is our "Walk to School" Week.

Green Schools

Welcome back after a not so sunny summer from all of the Green Schools Committee.  We hope everyone is refreshed and looking forward to another educational and green year in ACS.
The end of last year was a very busy one for us.  For those who don't know, Ashbourne Community School was awarded its 4th Green Flag for its work on the theme of transport.  In May, Ms. Hughes and one of the committee members travelled to Croke Park in Dublin for the award ceremony.  Ashbourne Community School was used as a prime example of how a large school and community such as ours can all come together as a group and over the past eight years earn four flags.  On the day, the guest speaker was none other than Duncan Stewart.  The flag is now in the school ready to be raised to show our achievements
The committee has already started meeting this year and planning for the future.  We have started the process of recruiting new members from 1st years all the way through to 6th years.  This year one of our main targets will be to return to our previous three themes of Litter, Energy Consumption and Water Wastage as well as to continue with our transport theme and make sure the school is as "Green" as it can be !  We again hope to host our annual events such as "National Spring Clean" and others throughout the year.
Be sure to listen out to the daily announcements within the school and keep an eye on our section here on the website for all the latest news and information regarding Green Schools.  If you want to contact  us, feel free to phone the school or email us at greenschools@ashcom.ie
