In keeping with the theme of travel for our 4th Green Flag, and in order to tackle the problem of traffic congestion in the school area, this year  we  organised a "Walk To School Week" which took place from May 19th - 23rd.
We encouraged as many people as possible to use the most eco friendly modes of transport available to them on this week.
Walking, cycling, public transport, car-pooling and even park and stride are options available to people in Ashbourne Community School.
Park and Stride is a new idea where students would get a lift to Ashbourne, but walk the rest of the way to school, maybe with friends.
Not only is walking and cycling good for the environment, but also good for your health.
Our main action day was on Tuesday 20th May.  On this day, we had a representative from An Taisce came out to take part in workshops with some of our 1st year students.  In the morning, we also  organised a Smoothie Bike where we made smoothies powered by cycling a bike
Congratulations to 2nd Year Student Luke Brennan who has won a prize in the An Taisce Green Schools Travel Postcard competition 2008 Fitter - Faster - Stronger.  He  has won a bike with safety equipment for himself and a digital camera for the school.
