Ashbourne CS U-15 Rugby romp to victory over Dunboyne
Ashbourne opened the stronger side by putting early pressure on the Dunboyne defence. This pressure led to an early penalty chance which James Morgan narrowly failed to convert. The momentum soon was with Dunboyne who scored a breakaway try following a scrum in their own 22.
Undaunted by this early setback Ashbourne drove on to score 2 tries; the first was a fine effort by Sean Singleton converted by James Morgan, the second a sparkling try under the posts, from Shane Keogh, breaking through the Dunboyne defence off the back of a scrum. Ashbourne finished the first half laying siege to the Dunboyne 22 and went in at half time with a nine point lead. Half Time Score: Ashbourne 14-Dunboyne 5.
Ashbourne started the second half where they left off in the first half. A neat piece of rucking led to a spectacular run from James Storme. Dunboyne then gave a sloppy penalty away and quick thinking from Shane Keogh saw the Ashbourne No. 8 breaking through the Dunboyne line, in which he passed to George Timmons who finished well scoring Ashbourne’s third try.
After a period of excellent play from both teams, the pendulum swung in Ashbourne’s favour when man of the match Brian Hayes blocked down the Dunboyne full back, James Morgan collected for an easy but well deserved fourth try.
Substitutions for Ashbourne included Sam Kenna for Tim Higgins, Jack Flynn, George Timmons and Micheal Murray for Robert Bolster.
Ashbourne ran out comfortable winners in the finish by 24 points to 5.
